From May 23–25, 2025, our annual #Hackathon brought together students, professors, and partners for a three-day deep dive into the future.
Three days full of creative chaos, teamwork, mentoring, inspiring talks, experimentation, prototyping, futures thinking, presentations — and of course, lots of laughs and fun moments along the way!
Hosted at the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) in the centre of Athens, next to the Roman Agora, this year's hackathon was organized in partnership with the Special Secretariat of Foresight at the Presidency of the Government, Hellenic Republic and focused on the theme:

🔮 “Foresight Futures: Designing the Digital Commons of Tomorrow”
Students from the MA Digi-DCL worked alongside our international guests from Macromedia University of Applied Sciences (Germany) to address three major thematic clusters:

- Institutional & Governance Innovation
- Technological & Infrastructural Shifts

Meet the Teams & Their Visions
✅Team 1: MentorLoop
Focusing on Technological & Infrastructural Shifts, this team developed an AI-powered platform to support both professors and students in higher education.
Students track progress, set learning goals, and take personalized quizzes — while educators gain valuable insight into student engagement.

✅Team 2: Balkan Union
Exploring Creative & Artistic Commons, this team proposed a decentralized cultural registry to archive, protect, and amplify Balkan artistic heritage.
The “Balkan Union” aims to empower cultural practitioners with a shared infrastructure for rights management and global visibility.

✅Team 3: DigiCity Think Tank
Addressing Institutional & Governance Innovation, this team introduced the Pythagora Protocol — a comprehensive civic tech ecosystem designed to empower citizens and revitalize democratic participation.
Their concept introduced a multi-layered set of solutions and digital tools enabling citizens to stay informed, challenge their representatives, and actively engage in both local and European-level decision-making.
Addressing Institutional & Governance Innovation, this team introduced the Pythagora Protocol — a comprehensive civic tech ecosystem designed to empower citizens and revitalize democratic participation.
Their concept introduced a multi-layered set of solutions and digital tools enabling citizens to stay informed, challenge their representatives, and actively engage in both local and European-level decision-making.

Their bold vision for a more inclusive and participatory digital democracy earned top marks from the jury. The “Pythagora Protocol” showed how technology, governance, and citizen empowerment can come together to shape better futures.
